We support health information management professionals in pursuit of degrees in health information and related programs

Application and Award Dates for 2022

Our 2022 Scholarship application is now closed. 

Award notifications will be sent by November 30, 2022.

Awards will be distributed by December 30, 2022. 

 

We encourage you to check back in February for the early opening of our 2023 Scholarship Program.

AHIMA Foundation Scholarship Degree Types

Associate's Degree

Associate's Degree

Amount: $1,000 award
Type: For students pursuing a Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM)-accredited AA degree in HIM or HIT
Bachelor's Degree/Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

Bachelor's Degree/Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

Amount: $ 1,500 award
Type: For students pursuing a CAHIIM-accredited BA/BS degree or a Post-Baccalaureate certificate in HIM or HIT
Master's Degree

Master's Degree

Amount: $ 2,000 award
Type: For students pursuing a master's degree in areas related to HIM or health Informatics
Doctoral Degree

Doctoral Degree

Amount: $ 2,500 award
Type: For students pursuing a doctoral degree in an area related to health information

Scholarships

Veteran's Scholarship

Veteran's Scholarship

The program is designed to provide scholarships for members of the military and uniformed Services. Specifically: spouses of active-duty military and uniformed services, veterans and their spouses, wounded warriors and their spouses, and surviving spouses.

Minimum eligibility requirements include:

  • Current member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
  • Achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 (out of 4.0)
  • Currently enrolled into a health information program accredited by CAHHIIM in the United States
  • Have at least twelve (12) credit hours remaining after the award date (after December 30)
  • Submit a completed online application (all its components)
  • Have not been awarded any AHIMA Foundation scholarship for the academic degree being sought through this application
Merit Scholarship

Merit Scholarship

The program is designed to provide scholarships to students who achieved academic excellence and demonstrate the potential to be future leaders in Health Information Management and Health Informatics.

Minimum eligibility requirements include:

  • Current member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
  • Achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 (out of 4.0) based on the most recent completed 30 credit hours
  • Currently enrolled into a health information program accredited by CAHHIIM in the United States
  • Completed 30 credit hours towards pursing a degree (for graduate degree, this can include undergraduate credit hours)
  • Have at least twelve (12) credit hours remaining after the award date (after December 30)
  • Submit a completed online application (all of its components)
  • Have not been awarded any AHIMA Foundation scholarship for the academic degree being sought through this application
Dissertation Support Scholarship

Dissertation Support Scholarship

The program is designed to provide scholarships to doctoral students who are in the stages of conducting research and writing their dissertations.

Minimum eligibility requirements include:

  • Current member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
  • Actively enrolled and pursuing a doctoral degree in health information or health informatics discipline at an accredited school in the United States (ABD candidates)
  • Successfully defended a dissertation proposal, confirmed by the candidate’s advisor
  • The candidate is in good academic standing
  • Submit a completed online application (all of its components)
  • Have not been awarded any AHIMA Foundation scholarship for the academic degree being sought through this application
